24 Oct 03 City: No to 'hotel' on beach

Fernandina Beach Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to withhold permission for construction of a 24-room "hotel" on the oceanfront near South Fletcher Avenue and Sadler Road.

Commissioners declined to grant conditional use and special use permits following a contentious public hearing that featured lawyers on all sides.

Ron Flick of Compass Group, representing current and potential owners of the parcel neighboring Slider's Seaside Grille, said Thursday they are considering their options but likely will challenge the decision because of a lack of due process. That means a resolution ultimately could come in court.
